The article “A dual adaptive filtering approach for nonlinear finite element model updating accounting for modeling uncertainty“, ublished in the journal Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing in 2019, was highlighted in the website Advances in Engineering. This research was part of the civil engineering thesis of Mr. Andres Alessandri and was developed in collaboration with professor Joel P. Conte from UC San Diego.
As mentioned in the Advances in Engineering, the article proposes a novel approach to update finite element models accounting for modeling errors and other sources of uncertainty and it is a promising solution for the design and optimization of structural systems with numerous benefits such as damage detection in structural components.
